Together with Hong Kong 2050 is Now, ADM Financial Capital, Civic Exchange, RS Group, and The World Resources Institute, we prepared a series of provocative - before/after - urban transformations aimed at transforming and decarbonizing several of Hong Kong’s urban conditions from central city to a range of waterfront conditions. These can also be seen on the Hong Kong 2050 is Now website along with their Pathways to Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050. Decarbonizing Hong Kong is possible - with actions taken by citizens, businesses, and the government. We believe these changes should be visible in the city and create a new way of life.

Hong Kong’s Kennedy Town waterfront has been rapidly changing and de-industrializing into residential neighborhoods and small businesses, yet it lacks piblic space and is susceptible to sea level rise, flooding, and storm surges. Could we imagine a new vision for this waterfront as a prototype for future waterfront transformations in Hong Kong?

Could we imagine a series of floating island-parks that periodically travel Hong Kong’s waterfront providing new public spaces while acting simultaneously as wave farm power plants and vegetated carbon sync’s to improve Hong Kong’s air quality? Can Victoria Harbor be a space to occupy as opposed to a space to quickly cross? Do we need to go to this extreme or can we reimagine the waterfront conditions themselves?

Can Hong Kong’s transport interchanges be transformed into multi-modal public spaces to occupy and enjoy as opposed to spaces for quick departures? Can they support new green spaces that improve the cities air quality and reduce the heat island effect?

Can Des Veoux Road Central become the spine of a series if new multimodal pedestrian spaces for Hong Kong?
